Friday Favorite :: Girl in the Woods

I have spent a lot of time this month backing up, archiving and looking over old sessions. I loved seeing the collection of images I have helped to create through the years. I thought that it might be fun to do a recurring blog post theme where I share some of those photos that stand out in my mind.

To kick off my Friday Favorite, I chose an image that I truly love. The light, the leaves, and the barren trees perfectly framed Miss Olivia standing there in her handpicked outfit. I mean, the outfit, it’s perfect, isn’t it? If I could get away with wearing a combination like that, I totally would. The best part of this photo, is that I feel it really reflects the true Miss Olivia and the amazingly unique vibe she gives off.

I hope this photo brought  a little light to your day, and I look forward to sharing more next week. Have a great weekend!

Ryan’s Quest 2013 Valentine Ball :: Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Fundraiser

For the third year in a row I am honored to be able to be a part of this wonderful fundraiser. I have donated a Portrait Session and a Gallery CD to be auctioned off at the Ryan’s Quest 2013 Valentine Ball. It is an evening of dinner and dancing, all for a good cause. Here is a little more information if you are not familiar with this organization:

  • The mission of Ryan’s Quest is to raise awareness for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) with the purpose of allocating funds for research that has the greatest potential of finding a treatment or cure for this disease.
  • This disease is the number one lethal genetic disorder of children worldwide. It is a progressive muscle disorder that causes the loss of muscle function and independence. Boys affected by Duchenne, lose the ability to walk between the ages of 8 and 12, require respiratory support by their late teens and survive only into their twenties.
  • Ryan’s Quest is primarily focused on supporting research for near-term, potential therapeutics and better testing platforms (tools) for development of Duchenne compounds. We are also interested in helping support families that are enrolled in clinical trials.
  • You can also read more about Ryan and how this organization came to be by visiting the Ryan’s Quest Website or their Facebook Page.

There is still time to buy tickets, but be sure to do it soon! If you are already  going, show some love and bid on my session (a good cause and a portrait session? Win- win!) or any of the other wonderful items up for auction! And if you can’t make it, you can always donate by following this link.

Thank you for taking the time to read about this important cause. I hope you have a great day!

Princeton Family Photographer :: The Weintraub-Johanesen Family

One of the beauties of January, is that I have time to show all those sessions from the previous year that never made it to the blog. This is one of the family sessions I have wanted to share.  We spent a glorious afternoon in Princeton. The campus is always an amazing location for photography. Between  the architecture, the ivy, the sculptures and the fountain, there were a lot of adventures for me to document.

This photo shoot stands out to me for a few reasons. First of all, I adore the dresses that the girls wore. Not only are they super cute, but they were handmade by Amy, their mother. To me, details like that, make all the difference. My mother made me dresses when I was little, and to this day, I can remember them- perfectly. I loved them, and I loved how special they made me feel. I cherish those photos where I am wearing them, because it brings back such happy memories. I like to think that these girls will have a similar reaction one day when they are looking back at these images. Also, this is the only session I have photographed in Princeton where the family got into the fountain. It was so much fun- not just for the kids, but for me, as well!

I am always happy to discuss different ideas you may have for your family session, so just let me know what we can do to make your photo shoot uniquely you.

Princeton Portrait Photographer :: All Around Town {James & Anna}

James contacted me in December about setting up this January session. Technically, I was closed the first few weeks of the new year, but James would only be home on leave for a limited amount of time. Thankfully we were able to coordinate our schedules and make the shoot happen.

The morning of this session I told my husband, “It is cold out there”. To which he laughed, and replied , “Well, it is January!”.  It is January, and it was cold, but you would never know by looking at James and Anna in the images below. We spent the brisk session walking around Princeton and enjoying the practically empty town. I am so happy that we braved the cold and were able to fit in an outdoor session during the time that James was home. These are some of my favorite images from that day. I hope you enjoy them.

And if you can’t wait till the spring for your next session, give me a call. We can make it work- we’ll just bundle up!

Love & Joy for the Holiday Season

I was definitely blessed with a busy Fall season. Between documenting weddings, family sessions and a few other celebrations, my schedule was chock full- and I wouldn’t want it any other way. But as I wind down and start to prepare for my holiday break, I wanted to share a shoot I did for my  holiday card.

People always ask me if I have a million pictures of My Boys. I don’t have quite that many, but I sure do photograph them a lot. And I am just like everyone else- I want to document those milestone: birthdays, school events, and of course, the holiday photo. I had the vision of what I wanted my holiday card to look like for a while. I pretty much was basing my whole image around three things: hats, field, sunset. Now I just needed to execute it. As December rolled around, and I worked on editing all  my clients photos and designing their holiday cards, I started to panic that I had not even photographed my kiddos yet. So, the next day, I decided I just had to get it done. As I ushered my son off the bus and back home to get dressed, I knew we had 28 minutes before the sun set. The field I wanted to use was 10-15 minutes away after you factored in the crazy holiday traffic. As we drove there, I prepped the boys for what I was planning on doing, and that we would have to rush. By the time we parked we had 12 minutes left of the golden hour. There were a few people in the park walking their dogs who definitely gave me some crazy looks as My Boys and I ran past them (the field I wanted was all the way on the other side of the park- of course!) as I yelled “C’mon Boys!! We are losing light!!” I practically threw my kids into the spot I had scoped out earlier and just started shooting. The whole “session” took less time than it did for me to write this blog post, but it was done!

I ended up using a totally different image than my original vision for my cards. But as I often find during shoots, the “outtakes” turn out to be the best stuff. I hope you enjoy the images and that all of you are finishing up with your work, and are able to focus on what is really important in life: your family, your friends, and your wellbeing.

My work presence won’t be totally gone these next few weeks, but I will be taking a break from sessions and less active in blogging, posting and on email. I am excited to return in full force mid-January. In the meantime, I will be giving my website and blog a face lift and working on some wonderful new stuff for 2013. I can’t wait!

Be well, and have a happy, healthy holiday season.
